CIP: Typography & Layout Case Studies

The first tasks for CIP were given to us before we were given the brief, which left me wondering about the purpose of the tasks.

There were two tasks, one was our assignment to do before we came into class (typography) and the second was a research task in the studio (layout). The image below on the right shows my sketchbook analysis of two pieces of typography I had selected. What I enjoyed the most about selecting and discussing type was we actually walked around the room to check out everyone else’s responses. Then, the image on the left shows the book layouts that I took apart and redrew with the various columns in the grid. This task was something I found quite easy as it was also a task we had done in the Impression Studio with Alistair last term.
