Impression: Anthology Layouts

One of the key elements we have had to design in the anthology is the layout as 95% of the book is body copy. So myself and Hannah set out to produce around 5 double page spreads each which we could then reflect on as a group.

I ended up with four draft layouts, two of these being single columns and two of them being double columns. I actually really liked the two column layouts but Maria brought up this gave the impression of a magazine layout rather than a traditional anthology. Also once paired with the screw binding, having the multiple columns actually makes it difficult to have plenty of white space which is something we really wanted.

Maria then went on to develop a single columned design. The simplicity of the layout actually really worked, perhaps my designed layouts were too ‘designy’ and more magazine/zine appropriate rather than for a book anthology.
