CIP: Exhibitions, Talks & Visits

One of the elements that has to be in our Collection publication is exhibitions, talks and visits that we have been to this year. I felt that because the Collection was my portfolio I didn’t want this element to be in the publication so I thought about using the riso printer to create a pull out map that I could insert into the finished book.

The first thing I did was make a list of walks and talks to work out a map:

  • Accelerator
  • Hato Press
  • Fedrigoni
  • MagCulture
  • Four Corners
  • Thick Time Exhibition
  • Whitechapel Gallery
  • Tate Modern
  • Artist’s Books Collection
  • Alistair Hall
  • Intern
  • Grand Visual
  • Handsome Frank
  • Will Hudson
  • Family & Friends
  • Alyson Hurst from GFSmith
  • & Fig Taylor to name but a few!

On completion of the list I then took different locations over to Google Maps to see if they were all close enough to include; I found that actually the Tate was a little bit out of range but it allows me to use the visual of the River Thames which I think would be nice. I think the only way for me to know if that works is to draw out the map! I then started looking at illustrated map designs for inspiration. The image below from Fatti Burke was a really beautiful design that I came across – I think this style pairs perfectly to riso printing and means I don’t need to worry about the accuracy of the locations on my map.
