Okay, so technically this wasn’t a Hothouse talk but this is where this talk is finding itself on my blog.. Until it bothers me that it’s organised wrong..
So we had Frankie Ratford, the founder of The Design Kids, come in and explain both her career in the creative industry and the role of TDK. While she was explaining all this she was also making me question my whole life, which is fine because I do that at least once a week anyway.
The Design Kids bridges the gap between college students and professionals, in the Graphic Design industry. It’s a giant resource to help you get inspired, get involved, and get hired! Get to know your local design industry, for new inspiration, different ideas or awesome dream jobs. -from thedesignkids.org
This resource is so invaluable to us for the different steps that it shows we should be keeping on top of to find jobs in the creative industry; I think I have more of an understanding of what will get me hired now. I have been working for the last 3 years but when this isn’t in the industry I’ve been thinking I have nothing when in fact there are projects and things I’ve volunteered for in university that I haven’t considered for a CV. Really cements the idea that failing to plan is planning to fail because you can’t just expect to get a job without the networking and experience needed.
